The software from ADP will be part of athenahealth\u2019s technology portfolio for current and future clients at no additional cost, says Mark Harris, senior manager of corporate development.

Athenahealth, which traditionally has served physician practices but is building a base of hospital clients, will integrate ADP\u2019s functions into its athenaOne software suite that includes electronic health record, practice management, care coordination and revenue cycle modules.

Athenahealth, which currently serves about 80 hospitals, initially is focusing on the community hospital market starting with facilities with fewer than 50 beds, then those with as many as 100 beds, with a potential client base of as many as 2,500 facilities, Harris notes.

Over time, athenahealth hopes to continue to work with ADP as it enters the large hospital market. ADP serves companies that range from small businesses to large global enterprises, says Anthony Maggio, vice president of channel and partner development.

By integrating payroll, time and attendance data, organizations gain efficiencies by automating payroll processes and can more accurately track hours worked and analyze workforce metrics such as overtime hours and employee absences, while meeting various compliance requirements.

Athenahealth and ADP were introduced to each other early in 2016 by Intacct, a vendor of enterprise resource planning software; athenahealth already had a relationship with Intacct.

A couple of pilot sites are live on the new service with a few more linking up this month and a ramp-up expected in 2017, Harris says.
